Summary
“Your boundary,” Kou says aloud. He's coming to some understandings. “It… doesn't listen to your requests? It doesn't do what you want?”
Mitsuba glowers. His hair is sticking up in a way that makes him look almost catlike, as though he's trying to make himself look bigger.
“Fuck you,” he says, but quieter this time. “No, it doesn't. Not most of the time. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, exactly - if I'm not authoritative enough, if there's instructions I'm supposed to be following that no one told me, if it just doesn't like me as much as the last Number Three. I don't know.”
He turns around to glance at his bed, expression tightening. His face is flushed pink with embarrassment.
“I'm kind of afraid of it,” he mutters, so soft Kou almost doesn't catch it.

After a supernatural attack that leaves Kou too disheveled to go home and face his brother, Mitsuba reluctantly allows him into his boundary to clean up. However, the Hell of Mirrors has other plans for Kou.Series

“Kou,” Mrs Mitsuba asks. “You're from an exorcist family, is that correct?”
He opens his mouth, but it's suddenly dry and he's unable to speak for a moment. She can't be asking him this for a good reason, and his mind races with a million thoughts. It's not possible that she's started seeing supernaturals, is it? Kou really hopes not. Explaining Mitsuba to her would be a nightmare.
“I am,” he says. “The Minamoto clan has been full of exorcists for generations. Why do you ask?”
She bites her lip, letting out a soft sigh through her nose. “It may seem… silly what I'm about to say,” she admits. “But I believe… I believe I may be being haunted by my son.”

Summary
Mitsuba takes Kou's hand in his and squeezes it, so tight it almost hurts. “Take me somewhere,” he says, and when he looks at Kou, there's a familiar desperation written across his face. “Anywhere. I want to be distracted. I don't want to think about anything.”
Kou is understandably terrified of the situation and what might be going on, but he cares about Mitsuba more than he'd ever like to admit. So of course, when he wants something, he'll give it to him.
“Ok,” he says. “I have an idea of where to take you.”

Summary
Mitsuba whines like a wounded animal, and as Kou stands up and walks around the table to get to him, he catches a glimpse of his eyes. Something dark and desperate lurks there, and it's the harshest reminder of the fact that his friend isn't actually human that Kou's received in a while. If it weren't for the clear unhappiness written across his face, the wobble of his lips and the shine in his eyes, he might remind Kou a little of Tsukasa.
“You're hungry,” he says faintly. “Actually hungry, not sushi hungry.”
Mitsuba exhales uneasily and lays his head down on the table. “No shit, genius."

Mitsuba comes to see Kou late at night for seemingly no real reason at all. Kou wants to find out why, but is incapable of saying no to his friend's every ridiculous wish along the way.Series

Summary

"Excuse me?"
"Hypothetically, though. Obviously, that's not... real."
Or: Kou suffers from Hanahaki Disease, and the more time he spends with Mitsuba, the worse his condition gets. But maybe he would rather die rather than ever letting Mitsuba go.
