In which Ryland Grace (still a middle-school science teacher) gets dragged into researching a microscopic organism in the Arctic (brrr), gets placed on an isolated ship that has only one survivor from the original crew (yikes!), and ends up making a few... friends? Lovers? Something else? (He doesn't have time for that rn, he's got a job to do!)

Bloodymary mer au very much inspired by ML2Key's fish simon stuff on instagram (check it out its soooooo good) but with my own spins. like how I did way too much speculative biology and came up with 11 species with their own scientific names and everything. Confirmation bias: the human tendency to search for, interpret, and recall information that aligns with our existing beliefs, while ignoring or dismissing evidence that contradicts them.
No matter what Grace tries to tell him, Simon is very sure that the man is divine in nature. It just makes sense.

Simon winds up in The Enclosure, naturally. Grace is super down to have human company on planet Erid, but he really wishes someone would have given him a little bit of warning first. Especially about Simon’s religious cult upbringing — if he had known about that, he maybe could have planned a better-worded greeting that wasn’t basically, “Be Not Afraid.” He really set them up for failure with that one.
