This is the longest thing I've written so far on ao3, and honestly, that's concerning.
...Viggo Grimborn was not a simple man. He worked in business, operated an entire empire, and led his tribe into their glory days of dragon hunting. He had many things. Resources, for one. Men, armadas, clients, dragons. But there was something he didn't have: A lover.

There is a difference between real love and obsession, and Hiccup has learned this many times over. Additionally, Hiccup has a lot of experience taking pain quietly. When the riders see some aftermath of a particularly brutal capture, they are understandably concerned. For Hiccup? IT didn't matter. He'd do anything for them. Astrid, however, is not willing to take any of it.

“The purple one,” Viggo gestures to the mostly-burnt building with no hesitation.
“Are you sure?” He is suitably unimpressed by the ruined state of the building. “Do not take meager pickings for the sake of my multitude of men.”
“I am sure,” Viggo shrugs, “the view seems to have its advantages, and though half burnt, let us say that the similarities to myself serve me well.” Crudely, he gestures to the side of his face.
In the ever so brief siege of Dragon's Edge, Viggo chances himself.

And there they were, a couple hundred feet below the surface of the Pacific Ocean, surrounded in a comical bubble of air, breathlessly staring at each other.
She looked at him, soaking in his appearance, reconciling it with the boy she used to know. He had the same messy blonde curls and awkward height. He was tanner, and just bigger, like the rest of his body had finally caught up with his height. His arms were more muscular– all of him was more muscular, God– and he had a tattoo brandished on his bicep, peeking out underneath his armor.
She sighed, silently to herself, as her heart tried to regulate itself. He looked like Percy.
Without thinking, she attacked. She had dropped her dagger, but she still had her fists and the element of surprise. She punched him, again in the gut and then judo flipped him, pulling her body weight fully on top of him.
She breathed, her face an inch away from his.
“Who are you?” she spat out angrily.
“Good to see you too, Wise girl,” was all he said, grinning up at her.~
After almost two and a half years of searching, Annabeth finally finds Percy– except he is nothing like how she remembers.
