Summary
Bilbo Baggins is much more competent than any of these 13 dwarrow know, much more so than even Gandalf knows. When Gandalf explains the quest these dwarrow are going on, Bilbo knows that they will absolutely muck it up. Someone needs to watch out for them, and if a Hobbit needs to be the babysitter than so be it!
None of the dwarrow know just how capable this Hobbit is when they leave his door, and they’ve barely begun their journey and Bilbo’s already proven his worth just a few days in! Who knew such a small creature could hold so much knowledge?
Even Thorin Oakenshield was grudgingly impressed.
None of them need to know that Bilbo is babysitting them, and if he grows to love them all as family (and maybe a couple as something else) than that’s nobody’s business but his own!

Dwalin knew he'd never be the same. Yes, the past was in the past, but that didn't stop it from haunting his every future breath. He just wanted it to stop. And if that meant stop breathing, than so be it.
Nori hadn't expected to see Dwalin again after nearly a decade, and when he did he barely recognized him. The once proud warrior was now just wasted away muscle and skin with horrors lurking behind his eyes and tremors in his hands who flinched at any sudden movement.

Kaveh knows he's in a video game. He doesn't know how, he doesn't know why - he just knows that being a sentient video game character is his existence now. Still, it's not bad - he gets all the time he could ever want to work on his architecture, and when he gets tired of the inside of his office, he takes a walk through the beautifully rendered forests of 'Heart's Blood'.
But when a handsome stranger logs into the game for the first time and picks the strangest dialogue choices available, he's left floundering and flustered.

A mass grave is discovered at the edge of the desert, and in it 20 corpses with strange circuitry-like marks on their skin, and masks fused to their faces – masks inscribed with a strange, nearly extinct language that can only be read by a dangerous, reclusive Eremite Tribe . . . and, inexplicably, by Alhaitham.
Perhaps he should be more bothered by the fact that he never actually studied or learned this language than he is, but as Alhaitham heads out to investigate the grave with Cyno, to learn what happened to these people, there are plenty more pressing problems to worry about. Assassins, betrayal, and ancient secrets plague them on their path to uncover a dangerous plot that threatens all of Sumeru, and suddenly it’s all they can do to survive. With allegiances shifting like the desert sands and primordial powers stirring, Cyno suddenly finds himself unsure of who can really be trusted, while Alhaitham . . . Alhaitham finds himself in a fight for his very soul . . .
