“You think I need my hand held?” Mizu snorts with a straight face. Pink creeps into her cheeks, satin-pink, everywhere: the smooth, long line of her neck, the tip of her delicate nose. Her mouth.
“I think you need to let up. Maybe you should have smoked that cigarette. Maybe you should stop denying plain truths.” Vi’s eyes flick to Mizu’s wrist.
“You think that’s what I am? A control freak?”
“No, the opposite.”

or: 36 year old Eiji Mizu, a highly successful critical care surgeon and soon-to-be co-owner of one of the most prolific medical clinics in New York, finds herself dissatisfied with the trappings of her seemingly ideal life — a seemingly perfect life which she puts on the line when she begins a torrid affair with one of the younger interns of the hospital, specialized psychiatrist, Vi Lanes.

No matter what, Akemi's not going back. She’s not. Not after enduring everything she has. Seki be damned; she wasn’t giving up and going back to Kyoto. It had been nearly two weeks since she’d left, and despite the cold, the men, and the threats she’d faced, this life still bode far fairer for her than becoming the bride of that disgusting, sadistic shogun’s son.
If Mizu – another man – wouldn’t stand up for her even after she’d saved his life, then fuck him. He could go die, too. No man in all of Edo could be trusted, and she needed to remember this.
OR: What if Akemi had fought back? What if Mizu didn't let the guards haul Akemi off?
