Summary
“You were lucky to survive that storm. Heard all about it in the news coo after it struck, how bad it was.”
Discussing it makes the stub of his leg itch. “I’ve sailed through far worse.”
It’s ironic, and another thought that’s hung around his mind like a bad smell, to return to the East Blue from the Grand Line, to trade a notoriously tricky sea for a simpler one, and then to lose his crew to home waters.
“Your son is lucky then,” the captain adds. Zeff blanches. Little surprises him, but at that Zeff nearly chokes.
“He’s not my son,” he sputters.
~
Sanji has never had a home or a dad before the Baratie. Zeff is figuring that out for himself.

Summary
“But you’ll see them in heaven?” he asks, something he’d heard people mention on the Orbit. Wasn’t that where people went when they died?
Zeff all but guffaws at that. “Eggplant, if there’s a heaven, that ain’t where I’m going.”
