    Her world had been small and simple, once. Her Mother, her sibling and herself, in a manor that contained just as many hiding spots as it did secrets; not an easy life, yet balanced all the same. But Phantom's sudden disappearance, shortly after Lace's eleventh birthday, had sent the mirage crashing down into a cruel reality she hadn't been prepared for.

    When Phantom returns one night, almost a decade since Lace has seen them last, starved and without a place to stay, Lace is forced to confront a great many things: memories of a past thought forgotten, her own restless psyche, and, most of all, the sibling she was convinced she would never get to bury.

    Seeing it in person makes my throat tighten.

    I’m glad I’m alone. I can’t control the slight tremble in my hand and I’m not sure if it’s fear or grief, but there's something bubbling under my chest.

    Grace died over a decade ago. I killed him. I know that.

    I’ve had 26 years to sit alone in a cell with that. That and every other outcome.

    But for some reason instead of touching the beetle I’m frozen wondering if perhaps Grace had touched it too.

    TLDR: Stratt goes through the logs from the beetles and has to save the world. A bit of a shock to her.
