It hadn’t been his fault. Nick didn’t make stupid mistakes, like forgetting to reload his gun or failing to notice the growling of a hunter over the din of an oncoming hoard. It was all Ellis's fault that he'd had to turn his focus to him instead of the immediate threat of the oncoming infected.
Nick get injured and has to make a choice: preserve his dignity and power through, or accept help from the group of near-strangers he's been traveling with.

Understands Nick in a way a lot of people don't. Does kill off Coach and Rochelle in the second act but it serves to characterize Nick and Ellis and isn't just a ploy to get them out of the way for yaoi purposes. 10/10.
