Summary
Rebecca lost her inhibitions at some point this evening. Abandoned them along with her relationship and her left shoe and the words "this is a bad idea." And she has no real interest in finding them again. Possibly ever.
No, that's not quite true. She definitely wants her shoe back.
She has no idea how many fingers of whiskey she's consumed. If she were in any state to guess, she'd probably say more than the number inside her right now but fewer than twelve.

Summary
Nothing good comes out of a middle-of-the-night phone call. It’s never someone calling to say they got the job, or that they’re engaged, or that something finally worked out the way it was supposed to. Those calls wait for morning and a version of the world where good news has room to exist. A call that comes at night only ever means something has gone wrong, that someone is awake when they shouldn’t be, choosing words they don’t want to say. And somewhere else, someone is about to answer, not knowing that whatever comes next will divide everything into before and after.
When Ted faces a personal tragedy, Rebecca boards a plane without hesitation.

Summary
“It’s been three years, Coach,” Beard’s eyes are focused on the TV as he speaks. “Everyone moved on. But it took her a long time to bring him around, and only a wild idea from Higgins to immediately seek you out.”
“She called, I came,” he says it like it’s the most obvious cause and effect, because it is.
“With nothing to run from this time,” Beard murmurs, watching along with Junior as Bob Ross mixes reds and blues to add depth to his mountains. “Everything’s in the details.”

Summary
The knock on Rebecca’s office door is habitual. Ted’s done this a hundred times before, in the morning with biscuits, in the evening with stories about his day and it is always the same.
Except today, it isn’t.
He pushes the ajar door open, expecting Rebecca to be immersed in paperwork or emails, a tea cup on her desk but the sight stops him cold.
She isn’t alone.
Matthijs is there, standing close as she gathers her belongings, laughing at something he’s said. The sound hits Ted like a sucker punch.
Rebecca’s laugh has never hurt before.
This is a story about how two years apart changed Ted and Rebecca's bond.
