Summary
It’s the sort of stupid fight couples get into every other day during the week and twice a day on the weekends. It comes from intimacy, love, and rocketing real estate prices in New York. Take 8 million people and cram them into a small space and things are bound to get tense.
Take one territorial warlock who’s lived by himself far longer than most people have been alive and things go nuclear.

“Oh, Magnus,” Maryse says, and she reaches out with careful hands to cup his face, brushing away the tears. Abruptly, Magnus wonders if Alec ever had this, if Maryse had ever touched him with such maternal affection. The thought causes such a complicated riot of emotions that he immediately pulls out of her hold.

Summary
Jace blinks, peering at the loft in vague stupefaction. “This,” and Alec’s parabatai’s voice sounds like he’s dragging each noise out from his exhausted mind and forcing it out before he can forget what word he just discovered. “Isn’t the Institute?” The final phrase comes out as a question.
Alec tilts his head in puzzlement, glancing at his brother as if wondering how he could possibly consider that Alec had taken them there instead of here. “No?”
Alec’s head moves back to level and he narrows his eyes instead. “We said we were going home after patrol.”
The ‘ergo, we are home now’ wasn’t said, but it was obvious in implication.
