“Because I still love you!” Vox yelled. His screen flared, bright and disarming, his voice warping with static. Valentino was so transfixed by the light he couldn’t speak for a moment. Vox grabbed his face and jarred him back to reality. “And tonight I realized we’re still so fucking good together.”
“You mean the sex?”
“I mean spinning you around in the living room, and seeing you smile. Your eyes are so big and so pretty when you’re happy, Val. I miss making you happy.”

As Vincent reached the door, Val rasped, “Bye, good boy.”
Vincent stiffened, shoulders tense, hand frozen on the door handle.
He didn’t turn. He didn’t reply. He just walked out, with all the elegance of a man trying very hard not to throw something.
Behind him, Val lay back, wheezing and laughing under his breath.
“He’s gonna kill me,” Val whispered. “Worth it.”

“You’re a heartless bastard. Your cruelty knows no bounds. You rule with an iron fist and have no qualms about using underhanded tactics to get what you want. You’re a vile fiend, Vox.” Valentino smiled broadly. “I like that about you. I love that about you. I love doing fucked-up shit with you. I really, really want you to be mine, baby.”

Honestly, Val didn’t quite know why he was doing this. Or, well, he did. The money, the pity. But…he didn’t have to let Vincent lay on his lap and tell him about his problems. He didn’t have to be here at all, actually. He could be doing much better things. He had a painting he needed to work on.
