Under a full moon, gentle waves lap at the shoreline.
Only a few people ever came here. Even during the day, it was too sharp and distant for anyone to walk comfortably. In this place, at this time, it was almost certain that he was alone.
Almost certain, but not impossible. Even if chance had led another to this place tonight, he'd have no way of knowing.
Though he chooses to toss the coin, the moment it leaves his hands, he loses any control over how it might land. For now, the coin spins languidly through the air.
This story will not describe the moment that coin was tossed, or reveal what might happen when it finally hits the ground. Instead, it explores the middle place Tsurugi finds himself in… and who he might find waiting for there.

Shouta's gaze moved to his hand, where a tiny, chubbier one wrapped around his index finger.
He looked at the kid whose eyes are puffy, red, and shiny like he's been crying and giant green irises stared at Shouta’s hand with a level of focus that only a child can have. He turned his gaze to the mother intending to get her attention but the notion died as he scanned the woman, distracted with a not-so-good looking phone call if the worried frown pinching her face and her fingers wringing in the front of her cardigan is any indication.
He sighed and let the kid play with his fingers, cooperating by turning his hand over when it was gently tugged, and watched the toddler count the lines on his palm in tiny murmurs and intense concentration, poking each one as he went, tired little sniffles every few seconds filling the silence. Looks like Shouta isn’t the only one who had a shitty day.

Aizawa Shouta, a new prohero, planned on getting some sleep on the train after a long exhausting day, like he always does, before heading back to the police station, but his plans get left at the train stop when a young mother and her toddler board his train.
