Summary
The two applied to lodge with me in the year 1933, having immigrated at some point from some corner of Europe or another; I think that it was Poland. They represented themselves as a married couple whose fortunes had declined, but who still, most importantly, had money enough for rent; their name, if I remember its spelling, was Stanczyk.
A narrator tries to figure out what's going on with his strange new tenants. The tenants mostly just want to get by. A gift for Rona (ronabird) for the Malevolent Mischief gift exchange!
