It doesn’t help that despite their heart-to-heart on the carrier, Rooster’s been distant. He supposes it’s because there’s no reason to fight anymore, now that he thinks he owes Jake some imaginary debt. But Jake misses their petty drama, misses when Rooster would kick the back of his seat just to get Jake to turn around and snip at his poor aim. Now instead Rooster just stares, always in the corner talking to Nat, or Bob, or whoever else has sidled up next to him. When Jake catches him, all he does is raise his beer and smile; it doesn’t ever meet his eyes.

Healy keeps asking March for little favors.
March doesn't mind it. In fact, they're about the only thing he's sure he's good for.
Most of them are small: feeding his fish, passing him tools. You get the gist.
It takes March embarrassingly long to realize Healy isn't asking because he needs the help. And even longer to notice he's being taken care of, until it's too late to pretend otherwise.
Or, the one where March likes being useful, in more ways than one. And Healy, sharper than he lets on, watches March come back to himself, one trivial task at a time.
