Shane’s eyes snap open. Wait a second.
“Ilya,” Shane says, propping himself up on his elbows. “Ilya, wake up.”
Ilya makes a pained noise, eyes still shut. “I shut curtains already.”
“It’s not that. Ilya, hey. Don’t go back to sleep.” Ilya tries to bury back into Shane’s chest, but adrenaline knifes through Shane’s hangover long enough for him to peel Ilya off and roll him into his back. Ilya blinks blearily up at him, starfished in the sheets. Beautiful and naked and missing his mother’s cross.
OR: When Ilya’s cross goes missing after the Centaurs celebrate their first Stanley Cup win, Shane is determined to get it back. And so are the Centaurs. And the rest of Ottawa.

"I noticed that you repeat things I say."
For a moment, Shane simply stared at him. Then he blinked.
"Oh."
The response wasn't defensive. He didn’t sound annoyed - if anything, Shane looked caught off guard, almost embarrassed even. It made Ilya feel slightly bad that he had brought this up.
"It happens a lot," Ilya said carefully.
"I mean, I guess, yeah,” the tips of Shane's ears turned pink, and his voice got unexpectedly quiet.
Ilya hesitated before forcing himself to continue, realising there was no going back now.

“So we’re keeping the baby?” He asked, trying to keep his voice steady even as tears welled in his eyes.
“Well,” her voice broke, “yes. If you want it too. I know the timing is terrible but with everything…we might not be able to again.” He walked to her, dropped to his knees burying his face in her soft, flat stomach and kissing her warm skin.
“Of course I want it. I want everything with you.”
In a universe in which Shane is conceived while his parents are in college much stays the same, but much changes too:
David Hollander is a professional level goalie, but gives up that dream to raise Shane, instead becoming the Centaurs’ emergency backup goalie.
Shane is diagnosed with autism, trusts Ilya with his diagnosis, and they get together sooner.
OR
One fateful night, David Hollander is called to take the ice and discovers his son’s secret relationship.
