The air was cold, stinging like needles in Cheng Xiaoshi’s cheeks. He plunged his hands deeper in his pockets, blowing misty clouds toward the dark sky. Each time he exhaled longer, mouth wide open, entertaining himself for the last steps toward the police station. He ignored the dubious glances of the man standing guard at the gate, pulling his phone out to send a text.
