“I don’t think this friendship thing is going to work,” Andrea said.
Emily’s face remained still. Years at Runway had at least given her that.
“Right.”
Andrea closed her eyes. “No. That sounded awful.”
“It was admirably clear.”
Andrea set both hands on the island. “For the same reason it didn’t work twenty years ago.”
Emily stared at her. The sensible response would have been to ask what Andrea meant. Emily knew that. Instead, the only answer that arrived was the one least likely to reveal that her chest had gone tight.
“Are you fucking off to Paris again?”
Andrea blinked. “Not unless it’s with you.”

When you can't make it to the restaurant for dinner with Andrea, apparently Andrea will bring dinner to you.
