Summary
In which Mumbo crosses several towns, learns some creative methods of self-defense, fights some monsters, sees things no human is meant to have seen, befriends a stranger, steals multiple cars, has inconvenient moral scruples, grows increasingly terrified of his own culpability in the apocalypse, grows a spine, blows up at least one building, accidentally prevents a murder, and attempts to find his best friend in the futile but ever-burning hope the man’s still alive.
He has to say, he’s so exhausted and terrified that he thinks he might just be mad?
(OR: the one where, after most of humanity turns into a series of terrifying monsters, Mumbo decides he’s going to risk his life on an apocalypse road trip to try to find out if Grian is alive. Things, as you might imagine, devolve from there.)

It's been years since Grian moved from Tokyo and into the Hermitcraft server. He's done his best to get over what happened during his attendance at Yandere Highschool and being with Sam, and he's seemed fine. He's got caring and supportive friends, no one forces him to do anything he doesn't want to, and he's got a loving boyfriend, Scar.
After the hermits were pulled into the Empires server via the Rift and ever since the Empires people had gone home, the Rift's been closed ever since. One day, when Grian was detailing the cave area surrounding the Rift, a portion of the portal warped and opened, and the avian had no time to react before he was pulled through and shot out into the bedroom of a random home that held a familiar smell, although a hint of something new lingered, and there's a — litter box?
