Hiccup sighed, “So are you gonna put out the fire or …”
“Nah,” Ruffnut said, “Let it burn.”
“You know, little H,” Tuffnut said, finally looking away from the fire, “We’re always wrecking havoc. It’s like our specialty. But you my friend - you are a walking disaster.”
“Gee, thanks.”
The roof on the smithy collapsed inward. Hiccup sighed. Ruffnut and Tuffnut looked at him in awe.
Hiccup hadn’t known it then, and wouldn’t ever know it, but that was the day that he first truly began falling out of favour with his father - and the day that he began falling into favour with the most insane duo on Berk.
Or, thanks to the fact that Hiccup seems to screw-up everything he touches, the twins follow him around for free entertainment. What they didn't sign up for was friendship.

Summary
The Monstrous Nightmare roars at the sound of a hammer clanging against metal, the sound echoing through the arena along with the yells of angry Vikings. The noise is unbearable, making the vicious red dragon screech and thrash his head, wings flaring out, eyes slitted in anger as his instincts scream to attack, to defend himself.
The small Viking boy stands before him, just as startled at the loud noises, desperately trying to cry out despite being unheard, his voice drowned out by the cacophony of noise.
The Nightmare suddenly rears back, snarling and opening his jaws, ready to fight.
But it isn’t aimed at the boy in the arena beside him.
Or~
I’ve always wondered what would happen if the arena dragons actually talked to eachother in their time imprisoned, and therefore the Nightmare would be aware of Hiccup before ever entering the ring

John still hunts the things that killed his wife and son. Sam is still running from the life that ruined his childhood and killed his brother, until the death of the love of his life sends him running right back into the thick of it all.
