But it was never difficult to spare a thought for Sakura. He could watch her passionately write notes for hours. Sometimes her pretty pink hair would escape its barrettes and frame her face like a portrait.
Whenever she caught him looking, he flashed his bright, toothy smile at her. She never smiled back. Her nose would wrinkle or brow furrow, but it didn't bother him much. He still held out hope that she would return it one day - look at him with even a fraction of the appreciation she directed towards Sasuke. If he could just prove to her (and all of Konohagakure) that he was worth something - that Uzumaki Naruto was somebody - then maybe he would finally get that smile.
