Joker blinks up at him. The shrunken smile widens again. “Oh really? You give him the runaround? Do you have a timer going for old-times sake to see if he’ll make it this time?”
“No, no timers, no games.” Hood lets a smirk grow on his face, satisfaction rising to eat at the panicfearsavemedad still coiling in his gut. “He left. You hear that really big boom earlier? Little accident over in Bludhaven meant he went running as soon as he realized the original Boy Wonder might be in over his head.”
Joker’s smile faded, disbelief taking over his face. And then, fear.
Hood bares his teeth in a mockery of the Clown’s grin. “That’s right. No more second chances for you. The Bat’s finally done with your games.”

Or, Bludhaven explodes, Bruce and Jason make different choices, and it changes just a few things.

Summary
The journey north takes forever.
It's the dead of winter and the roads are muddy. The taverns and houses they stay in as they travel are busy and loud and Jason locks himself in his rooms with only his books and the one attendant he was allowed. A beta of his darling brother's choosing.
Wallace is pleasant enough company for a spy. He talks enough to fill the gaps in Jason's end of any "conversation" himself and doesn't seem to mind when Jason only half listens.
The closer they get to their destination, the more Jason's nerves get twisted up. The more time he has to think, to realize just exactly to whom Dick sold him off.
