Summary

“Sylus?” you asked, pulling back slightly. “Can I ask you a question?”
“What is it?”
You tried to make it sound casual, but your voice betrayed you. “Do you ever...like, get uncomfortable? Physically? After we kiss?”
“From kissing you? No, not at all. I could do this all night.”
“No, I meant like…” You shifted your weight and glanced away, then back up at him. “When you get hard. And…we don’t do anything. Doesn’t that…hurt? Or make you feel bad?”
“Oh,” Sylus said softly. He paused, eyes scanning your face like he was piecing something together. “No, sweetheart. It doesn’t hurt.”
“So like, not even a little?” you asked, still unsure. “My ex used to tell me it hurt a lot. Like, he couldn’t sleep or think unless, you know…”
He gave a small, understanding sigh. “Yeah, that’s…a pretty common manipulation tactic.”
“Oh.” Your eyes stung suddenly, without meaning to, and you pulled away, tears welling up.
You felt stupid.
You should’ve just kept your mouth shut instead of embarrassing yourself.

God. You knew you shouldn’t have let him pay.
Even though you’d told him not to.
Even though you’d promised yourself you’d insist, at least offer, to split it. But you hadn’t. And now…
You forced a smile and turned away from Sylus, hoping he wouldn’t notice the way your hands were clenched tight in your lap.
“Sure,” you said, voice light, too light. “That sounds nice.”
The last thing you wanted was for Sylus to be mad at you. Things had been going so well. And he was such a nice guy. You were lucky he’d waited this long to even ask. You have to have sex in a relationship, right? Eventually. That’s just…part of it.
