Wei Wuxian has no time, there is no one left to lean on or ask for a desperate dying man's favor, and the siege is bearing down around him and he will die, Wei Wuxian will not live to see the sun rise tomorrow, there is no escape for him this time and perhaps he doesn't even deserve it anyway.
But A-Yuan does. A-Yuan must live to see the sunrise, he must live and grow big and strong and Wei Wuxian will do anything to make sure that happens.
Even if it means an untested talisman and placing his trust for his little radish's life in the hands of someone else.

“Would you mind telling me how long it’s been?” Lan Zhan asks.
The client meets his gaze. “Um… I— Is it relevant?” he says. “For— for you to do the job, I mean.”
Lan Zhan doesn’t answer him, not immediately; for a moment, he watches the man squirm. He really wants to believe he’s not being scammed, not just because it would save him a ton of paperwork or because it wouldn’t be the first time — people seeking a cleaning job that is easier to explain and get away with, but then balking at the price and refusing to pay it, since it’s not just a clean up service —, but because this feels, still, a little weird.
He doesn’t seem to be lying, but Lan Zhan doesn’t think he’s getting the full truth.
So, he gives him a half-truth too, “Yes.”
“Um,” he repeats. “I’d say it’s been a few days. Three. Maybe five.”
Lan Zhan nods. He puts down his bag, starting to set up his things.

I'll never forget what you did for me. It's actually why I went into teaching, you know. I hoped that someday, I might be like you. And then I’d be able to do the same, to help all of the other kids like me.”
Or: Lan Qiren is initially dismayed to learn that a former disruptive student of his will be starting at his school as a teacher. He doesn’t expect the gamut of emotions that follows when he discovers the real reason.
