Bucky tightens his hands into fists, searching for words he doesn’t want to come up with. The truth is falling out of him before he can stop it.“It gets to be a lot sometimes. The TV stopped helping.”
He doesn’t know what he’s doing. He couldn’t put words to this feeling in 100 years, but he knows that Sam is making the choices for him, directing him on what to do and it’s a temporary relief even if he has to sound like an idiot. His explanation isn’t even helpful- the words do nothing to cool the painful fire of angst inside of him.
Sam leans against the counter, studying him. “Is this… helping?”
Bucky can hear him breathing. It seems shallow. Suddenly, talking is not enough. He can’t say anything, can’t think beyond this feeling, this raging depression that swallows up his whole consciousness. He needs something else, anything else, to occupy his mind before he goes insane with guilt.
This is the reason, this is the only reason, that he leans in and kisses Sam like his life depends on it.
