"You're ashamed of me," Gaon said quietly. "You..." He tried to smile bitterly, and again failed. "...you don't want anyone to know that Kang Yohan, who controls everything, who never makes mistakes, who lives with a man, with someone who..."
Yohan stared at his mouth, at that cursed corner of his lips. And everything in him — defense, cold, habit — crumbled like a house of cards.
"Gaon, look at me."
"...Who isn't your equal. Who..."
"Gaon."
He stepped forward — and stopped.
"Gaon-ah."
Yohan's voice changed. There was no longer guilt or tenderness in it — only cold, collected clarity, the kind he carried into the resuscitation room.
"Smile again. Please."
"What?"
"Smile." He came close, took his face in his hands. His thumbs pressed at the corners of his lips — checking, measuring, comparing. "Raise both arms. Just raise them. That's it. Good. Now say something. Any word. Say 'butterfly.'"
"Yohan, I..."
"Say 'butterfly'!"
Silence. Gaon looked at him, and in his eyes was fear — a different fear now, not the one from a minute ago.
"Gaon." He swallowed. "Say something. Anything."
Gaon opened his mouth. And couldn't.

“Is this...” gaon's voice cracked, and he tried again. “Is this because I got in your way? Because I meddled in your affairs, because I stood up to you? You decided to shake me up?”

"Every damn time you walk into a burning building, and I don't know if you'll come out! I sit here, staring at my phone, and I pray, do you hear me? I don't believe in god, but I pray for you to come back! I don't want to raise our child in fear that one day you just won't come home," Gaon whispered, and in that whisper was so much despair, so much accumulated pain.
"What child?"
Gaon flinched, only now realizing what he had said.
"If ever," he corrected hastily, but his voice treacherously wavered, betraying the lie completely: too high, too brittle, too transparent. "If I get pregnant, the child should have both parents."
"That's why we used protection." The words fell like a knife. Yohan didn't even understand how it had escaped him, but it came out like an admission that he had never wanted this child. Gaon recoiled.

Summary
"Pi-o confessed? Is he with you now?" Jeong-yo asks in a pushed bitter tone to hide his lingering worry.
"Pi-o? No? It was all Ji-hye."
His mind races, jumping through the loops that were truth. It makes no sense.
Jeong-yo swallows.
He thinks to his conversation with Jae-in on how she'd watched Pi-o drive himself sick searching for him for five of the years he was missing.
Pi-o's pause before his confession, as if it didn't belong to him.
His willingness to be reckoned like he thought himself deserving of Jeong-yo's suffering.
The line goes dead and his feet are moving just as fast as they had in the forest.
He was running for his life then and now he's running for Pi-o's.

Summary
Pio wakes up the next morning in an unfamiliar bed. He groaned softly, he was aching all over.
He sits up and is startled to see Jeong-yo sitting there on one of the chairs. He was looking right at Pio, but the omega's eyes went to the way he was rubbing his right palm. It pained him to know he was the cause of it.
“Does your hand hurt?” Pio asks, his voice raspy from sleep.
“Did you lie to me, Kang Pio?” The alpha asks instead. The omega looks at him confused.
