She shook herself a little and gave a sad smile, “It’s just hard to find homes for the older cats and the ones with health issues. Everyone goes out and buys a cute kitten, but what about all these amazing cats, who still have so much love to give?”
Empathy smacked Goro in the face, stealing his breath. He knew about this issue with adopting animals, especially in Japan- people would much prefer to go to a store and buy a cat or dog instead of adopting one who desperately needed a home. It cut too close to his own experiences as an orphan, and the rush of hatred that flowed through him was a familiar one.
Goro clenched his fists, and accepted that he was about to do something very, very impulsive.
“Inoue-san,” he grit his teeth and steeled himself, “Do you have any other ‘hard to adopt’ cats? I would like to see them.”
