Summary
Sokka is convinced that nothing good ever comes of dealing with spirits. Nothing. They cause nothing but trouble.
So it would be just his luck that he stumbles into one a little too interested in his love life. After the spirit senses Sokka's conflicted feelings for Zuko, his friend and former enemy that he may or may not love, she decides to help him out. The problem is that her help is more of a curse! As each day goes by, it seems like something new and weird is happening to his body! It doesn't help that being near Zuko is driving him crazy in ways it never has before. What did the spirits do to him?!In which A/B/O doesn't exist in the world of ATLA yet, but I make Sokka patient zero, and then it becomes everyone's problem.

Summary

Marrying Prince Zuko is the first sacrifice that Sokka makes for his family, and it won't be the last.

Zuko’s stomach curled. On the far side of the hall, the daughters clustered, giggling behind their fans, their fathers negotiating subtle alliances with each other. A few of the older men glanced toward the throne with barely disguised hunger.
“They always look so... nervous,” Zuko said, voice low. “Like they’re being offered as sacrifices.”
Sokka’s head tilted. “Well, I mean, kind of? Have you seen the rumors about your temper?” He waggled his eyebrows, then ducked when Zuko shot him a look.
“I don’t want a—” Zuko lowered his voice. “A consort chosen like a harvest festival pig.”
“Right, right,” Sokka said, mouth twisting. “But you can’t just say no. It’ll look like you’re spitting in their faces.”
“I know that.” Zuko’s jaw tightened. “I just... wish it didn’t have to be like this.”
Sokka nudged his shoulder. “So pick someone ridiculous."

He released a steady breath, gave another half-truth, “Just… time. Love between kids doesn’t always survive growing up, you know? And we grew up a lot faster than most.” He turned to look back at Zuko, found him unmoved, still watching his face, and he’d been compelled to give the other half of it, “She told me I was running and she wasn’t the one meant to stop me… not sure what I’m running from, but,” he’d shrugged again, “I’ll know when it catches up to me,” then lifted his hands to bring them together in a resounding clap, “Or I run right into it.”
...
(Or: Alone once again, restless, and running from... something, Sokka dedicates himself to what he does best- keeping his family safe. When he uncovers the seeds of a plot to assassinate the Fire Lord, he rushes to his side to stop it before it starts. Maybe he'll find what he's running from along the way.)
