Devin abandoned him.
Devin left him to die.And Travis couldn't even blame him for it. He'd been nothing more than dragging Devin down, suffocating him without apology. He was nothing more than a corpse to keep throwing money at with desperate hope that something would change.
Nothing had ever changed. Travis only got worse with time. Both of them were delusion in believing that he could ever get better.
Or,
Devin hadn't paid rent before he left. He knew what would happen, but he still did it. Travis was alone again, homeless and pathetic. But fate decided to give him something, someone to reach out to him.
Though it would be wrong to call it mercy.
