Summary
The phone rings for an absurdly long amount of time before a raspy voice picks up. “Hi there. Nice to hear from you this evening.”
“Uh… hi.” The pizzeria employee sounds… sexier than Rio was imagining. Not that they were imagining anything, necessarily, they’re just not used to being seduced when trying to order food. “Can I place an order for delivery?”
There’s a long pause on the other end of the line. “Are you looking for roleplay?”
“Sorry, what?”
A long-suffering sigh. “Hon, do you know what number you called?”
or: rio, new in town, tries the number of a new pizza place and gets agatha's phone sex hotline instead.

Summary
New York, a fashion show, a bored Carol, and leather, lots of leather
-
The worst part? After seeing herself in the mirror, she actually liked the outfit, which made everything significantly more annoying.
- Fine, - she groaned - What's the deal?
- I'll only put you the leash on once we're sitting in our assigned seats, - Koumba said quickly, sensing he had a tiny opening and refusing to waste it. - My contact—the one who got us the invitations—managed to score front-row seats. Front row, Carol. If any designer, brand, or investor is interested in working with me, they'll see the complete vision. They'll see the collection. They'll see you.
Carol pinched the bridge of her nose - Koumba...
- Just listen. - he said
- I'm already regretting this. - Carol said

Summary
“I’m one of the lit managers,” the woman explains.
“Yet you can’t manage to take a hint," Carol retorts. "I’m not in the mood for conversation.”
It’s meant to be rude — to get this beautiful, annoying woman to leave her alone once and for all — but instead, the corner of her mouth curves into a smirk. Carol hates how sexy she finds it. “Clever wordplay,” she commends. “You really are a writer.”
Or: After sending dozens of query letters with no success, Carol reluctantly goes to a literary speed-dating event to try to find representation. There, she meets Helen.

Summary
She consciously ignores the memory of being introduced to Helen in the lobby a few weeks ago; doesn’t think about how her silver thumb ring had briefly skimmed over Carol’s knuckles when they shook hands. Or the smile that had crept up Helen’s full cheeks while they made small talk about Wycaro.

Summary
Twenty eight year old Carol Sturka is an aspiring author, presently working a temp position at Brooks & Bennet Law Offices in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She's also a self-proclaimed misanthrope, insulted by romance, holding firm in her assertion that to need another person is weakness, and to want them is even worse. So, literally running face first into the most gorgeous woman she's ever seen is maybe the worst case scenario. It's about to be her lucky day.
Helen Umstead is being careful. She understands all too well what it is to have your life feel completely out of your control, and she isn't about to let it happen again. She finally has a real job, with room for forward momentum, and her own apartment. She can manage the subtle chaos of daily life, and she feels stable for the first time ever. So, that restlessness nagging at her from the pit of her stomach, waking her up at all hours of the night, really isn't helpful. The monotony is what's best for her, or at least that's what she tells herself. Getting involved with the whirlwind that is Carol Sturka is a risk. A big one. And she just might have to take it.
TLDR: Baby sturstead desperately tries not to fall in love (three guesses how that turns out)
