Following the Irminsul incident, though everyone believes him dead, Dottore is very much alive.
Granted, he faces a slight problem: specifically, the fact that he is trapped in the body of an eight-inch lizard.He needs to find a way back to Snezhnaya and his human body, something Pantalone could easily help him with - had he actually bothered to let him in on this plan, too. As it stands, however, he is forced against his will to play the part of an innocent little reptile, all while slowly realizing that his colleague might have held him in much higher regard all along than he ever could have imagined.

Ratio notices that too.
Dr. Ratio and Aventurine are sent by the IPC to Somnus-V, a planet whose economy runs on traded memories and emotion. As they navigate the upper district’s political elite, the two find themselves being constantly monitored in a society built around emotional vulnerability and psychological control. Meanwhile, Aventurine’s growing feelings for Ratio begin complicating a mission that was supposed to remain strictly professional.

Tonight, like every night this week, The Doctor arrives at Regrator's apartment. He is currently sitting in a large, dark armchair. His hands are neatly folded one on top of the other. And he looks as though he’s waiting for something. Oh-"On your knees".
Pantalone, still sitting on the couch, looks up at the old man with his eyes half-closed and smiles. "That's quite direct for you."
"I don't have time for preamble," Dottore whispers. " Are you going to make me ask twice?"
Pantalone stands slowly. He walks to stand in front of Dottore and drops to his knees. He leans against the knee, cheekily resting his chin on it. Pantalone peeks out from beneath his half-closed eyes and smirks.
"Impressive," Dottore says, and his voice is rough. "Did not expect young people to follow instructions so quickly, Ya Amar."

Aspects of this fic I am INCREDIBLY fond of: Characterizations are accurate yet have their own unique delicious twist to them, the overall flow is as smooth as butter, no need to do a double take when reading, the way their dynamic and interactions were handled are lovely, no struggle when it comes imagining and simply gorgeous scenes

Summary
Dottore is not dead. He took two months to reassemble his soul—all of it, every deleted segment, every fragment, the original and everything after—into one complete person. He has been preparing for this for thirty years.
Pantalone finds this out when a voice speaks from the dark of his empty lab.
What follows: one surgical procedure, the end of a political engagement, a royal audience that goes better than expected, Childe being left unsupervised with three children for two months, and a total of four kids who completely wreck the genetic ledger. While the first three stubbornly turn out to be absolute carbon copies of Dottore, the fourth and final arrival finally breaks the streak, looking entirely like Pantalone.
Pantalone is still thoroughly annoyed that it took four separate attempts just to get a return on his investment.
