    Of course, Matt never really had a twin brother.

    Dex plucked the photo from one of its corners, almost reverently. His thumb stroked along the edge. He felt his breathing even out and the coarse line of his mouth soften in a semblance of a smirk.

    The upturn of his lips didn’t speak of something inherently smug but it held a similar sentiment of realisation. Not unlike when a person would grasp in their mind, in search of an answer for a time-constrained, vital question on an exam and finally had it.

    Dex had his answer and it almost had a hysterical laugh punch out of his chest at the absurdity of how simplistic and obvious the answer was all along. And, he had stupidly misread the situation.

    It all made sense now.

    If Benjamin Pointdexter wasn’t meant to be Daredevil’s greatest enemy . . .

    Then Matthew Murdock was meant to be Dex’s North Star.

    And, Matthew helped him escape because Dex, much like any unmoored person lost in himself, couldn’t pursue the stars if he wasn’t free.
