--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Law relaxes, letting his shoulders slump back against the couch. What did the cook mean? Luffy understands, he might pretend to be goofy, but he’s not stupid.
“Also.” Strong hands pin Law’s shoulders against the back of the couch, a warm weight settles over his thighs, and suddenly a smiling, scarred face is way too close to Law’s. “It means we’re friends.”
“Straw Hat-ya.” Law gapes, “What the hell are you doing?”
“Torao is my friend, right?”
“What makes you think that?”
“Torao helps me every time we meet, I got to help back this time.” Luffy says seriously. He lifts one hand and knocks his straw hat off his head, wild black hair poking in every direction, he’s blinding when he smiles like that.
Law has always had a soft spot for big, goofy smiles.

Summary
The sight of dark and stylishly tousled hair —hat-less for once—, bronze skin that glistened invitingly with sweat, toned muscles mildly covered by bandages, and endless paths of intricate, hypnotizing dark ink decorating broad expanses of said skin was plenty unfamiliar but definitely not unwelcome.
Luffy remembers literally gulping, unable to peel his eyes away from the other man. His throat felt dry all of a sudden, his stomach twisted in a weird way.
It was like the heat of the environment had seeped into his whole body inside out, with a multiplied by five intensity.
Or
Luffy is thirsty and doesn't know it. The Strawhats help him realize what he's feeling. And Trafalgar D. Water Law happens to reciprocate said thirst and so much more.

Summary
Buck had lost-- he was sure of this now. His resolve only lasted a few weeks before his exterior began to crack; he was never a very good actor. He couldn’t keep up the greetings and the asking questions and the easy stroll. He let his shoulders creep up to his ears, let his foot tap incessantly. He did what his Captain told him, but stopped asking for anything more. Stopped following the conversation in the back of the engine on the way to the call; he just stared out the window, thinking about the case to come, preparing for it. When he woke every morning, there was no big recovery milestone to strive for, no big fight for the soul of his career to win. Not even the happy swell of being back on shift -- something so easy to dismiss, that had dominated so much of his life, that he had taken for granted-- that had catalyzed him each morning of his first week back.
An old habit of his had returned. A bad habit.~~
or: after the lawsuit, buck confronts what it was he wanted all along. he looks and looks and longs for it; the team looks right through him. buck breaks-- right down the middle.
