They are Brighton-bound this afternoon, though not for one of the sweet, seaside jaunts he’s been promising to take her on for years. Eloise, as a rule, does not typically make excuses for her brothers. But she can’t fault Colin this one time.
He wasn’t the one who made Eloise’s best friend, Penelope, cry. No. That distinct honor goes to the fatwit who runs the florist stop. They’re the ones that cocked up Colin’s order. A mistake that led to the kindest, sweetest, gentlest person in the world feeling unloved and unwanted on her bloody anniversary.
So really, if you think about it, Eloise is justified in taking action. If anybody earned a negative Yelp review, it’s definitely the tosser who owns “Thistle & Crane.”

Another complex and nuanced story by one of my favorite writers. She pulls no punches in showing how difficult situations with layered people will play out, especially in the specifically traumatic circumstances of this fic.
The hea here isn't easily-won, but it's so fulfilling once it happens, because they both put in so much work to get there. Not an easy read, but a deeply enriching one.
