    Summary

When Sherlock goes underground to track down the gunmen, he doesn’t do it alone. Unfortunately, Moriarty’s operatives aren’t exactly helpless, and when John ends up in the line of fire – again – the ensuing events turn Sherlock’s world inside out in ways he might not ever be able to come back from.

(A/N: Written essentially because I wanted some bad-ass!Johnlock going after Moriarty's goons.)

In which Sherlock's death is announced a bit... prematurely in HLV. Things spiral from there.
    __

“Sit, Dr. Watson. I beg of you. I’ll get you some water and then I’d be happy to take you to him so you can say goodbye.”

“Ah. Mm. No. No. It’s not possible, all right? It’s Sherlock. Sherlock. I already… I already…"

I already suffered this once. This time, it’ll kill me.

“Is there anyone we can call for–”

But John was no longer listening. He was walking. Fast; in strides as long as his legs could manage. Away from Dr. Fredericks. Far from the A&E waiting area. Toward the grand glass entryway. Shouts followed him as he went – requests for him to come back, to sit down, to listen. They faded in volume the farther John’s feet carried him and dissipated entirely as soon as the automatic doors slid shut.

The bonfire doesn't happen during The Empty Hearse. Instead, both John and Sherlock are placed into a life-or-death situation. One that may prove too much for a still-wounded Sherlock.

    Excerpt:

“Pressure p-points. They’re observing our reactions to the situation. It’s possible they’ll intercede should w-we be in any real danger of dying – it’s an ex-experiment. It may or may not be attempted m-murder.”

    May or may not be?”

“We must operate un-under the assumption that it is, of course.”

“Already there, Sherlock. The water’s up to our fucking ribcages.”

    “Mm. So it is.”

    Summary

Sherlock holds a weeping John in his arms and… does something that will forever change things between them. For better or worse. He fears the latter.

    Excerpt:

“Sherlock. Look at me. What was that, hm?” John’s jaw was shifting, cheeks hollowed. “Why did you do that?”

Sherlock cleared his throat. His whole body was trembling. He stood up straight, trying to disguise the slight struggle this caused him with his balance (shaking his head to dispel the dizziness), and walked briskly past John. “I apologize,” he said, voice quieter than he intended. “I was quite unaware of myself. I am still in an affected state. You’re only here to mind me, after all. You know I am a recovering addict. It shall never happen again.”
