Jack doesn’t know why he said that. It doesn't change anything, wouldn't achieve anything except worry Whitaker more, probably. But he can’t get it out of his head, what Dana had told him earlier when he met her in the waiting room. The distraught look she had and the tears streaming down her face as she whispered to him, I think Robby believed that he deserved it.
Whitaker is staring at him now.

Jack: the faucet is leaking in the spare bathroom, Whitaker is helping me fix
Robby is grateful for approximately two seconds before a picture comes through that makes Robby choke on the beer he’s nursing at the bar down the street from his motel.
In it, Whitaker is on his hands and knees, shining a flashlight under the sink, looking up into its bowels while Jack is leaning nonchalantly against the doorframe, smirking into the mirror with his phone.
