AU where Gurathin and Pin-Lee manage to trigger the beacon launch, but aren't able to tell Mensah or SecUnit that. So Mensah and SecUnit have no idea what the launch timeline is or if it will happen at all.
As a result, Mensah proposes a different way to buy the group some time.

Most of this is canon-compliant Gen until you get to the Murderathin (MB/Gurathin) stories near the end, after Skulk. That's also where you'll find the only bits out of chronological order, with a couple stories from Gurathin's youth.

After Hacking by Gamebird

Summary
A series of short stories to the prompt: pre-canon but post-hack, Murderbot is owned and deployed by the Company. Emphasis on it facing painful, difficult choices, where it has to “choose” to obey, has to “choose” to act governed Or Else, where Murderbot has to look like it’s following callous, cruel, or profit-oriented orders, but still does what it can to reduce harm.
Please note that given the constraints of the prompt, Murderbot continues working, doesn't gain substantial allies or abilities, or make big changes in the world. Its gains are incremental and mainly self-discovery, so there's not a big, happy ending like with most of my fics. Murderbot is still learning some of the abilities it takes for granted by the time we meet it in ASR, including hacking, vocabulary, and social skills (yes, it has fewer social skills here than it does in ASR!)
These scenarios are arranged chronologically with several set within the same assignment, taking place within the first year after it hacks the governor module. I imagine these as incidents it discusses with Dr. Bharadwaj at some point post-NE, as it talks about early times when it recognized its own agency.

Summary
This is the various conlang dialogue Carl Buck and I translated for Paramount+'s Halo, a TV series adaptation of the well-known game series. Sangheili, the language featured in the show, is a language spoken by the Sangheili, as well as generally inside the Covenant, an alien alliance that worships the Halo Array. The language is a lightly inflectional head-final language with distinctive vowel length and ejectives. The language was co-created by myself and Carl—a project which started three years prior (almost to the day) to the series premiere. After the second season aired on Paramount+ the series was canceled.
