There’s a moment, however brief, where they just stare at each other. Roy thinks vaguely that he could probably count every last lash framing Jamie’s eyes, could probably name each of his freckles if he had to, which would be a fucking stupid thing to have to do, but is true nonetheless. He won’t say it, but he likes to think Jamie knows: he’s really going to miss the twat.

Summary
Roy smiles at him and interlocks their fingers. They sit comfortably as the boys sing songs and talk about the match, largely ignoring the two men in the background. Jamie takes the opportunity to lift Roy’s hand to his mouth and place gentle kisses on the back of it. He trails the kisses up and up, covering his arm and moving to his shoulder. The gesture is sickeningly romantic. Something Roy would never admit to loving as much as he does.
And then Jamie bites him.

Jamie doesn’t know why he kept it. He’d always had this thing, with having things in his mouth. He’d chew the corners of blankets or bite his nails, gnaw on pens until ink exploded on his tongue, he’d stick his thumb in his mouth absently when he was falling asleep and wake up with drool on his pillow and a wrinkly fingertip.
Keeley got it for him. Maybe that was why. She’d been taking the piss when she got it, because she knew Jamie’s ears went red every time she brought it up and she was a fucking sadist like that. She wasn’t being mean or nothing, never told Jamie she thought it was gross and that he needed to grow up because what self-respecting twenty-three-year-old still sucked their thumb on the regular, but one day she’d presented him with a little blue boxed wrapped with a shiny blue ribbon with a Cheshire fucking grin.

Based on the prompt: could you maybe write a fic where Jamie gets sick at an away game— whether it be anxiety, food poisoning, flu, etc. Maybe he sicks up in the middle of the night and Dani or Sam (I imagine they room together and are best friends) go get Roy and he’s very very sweet in his own Roy way to Jamie and then the next day on the bus Jamie still doesn’t feel good so he snuggles into Roy in the back of the bus?

Usually, he saw somebody fit, or somebody fit saw him, and things happened very quickly. But this wasn’t a pull in a club. This wasn’t jacuzzi sex. This wasn’t even the fumbling earnestness of his relationship with Keeley. This was something different. Something that was intended to be real. Something that could last. Not happily ever after because that was fairy-tale princess bullshit, but something that might be ever after at least. A little extra care, a little extra patience wouldn’t be a bad idea.

Roy had a certain comfort level with Jamie’s half-nude body–hell even his completely nude body wasn’t that big of a deal. He’d seen Jamie without clothes plenty of times, but there was always a certain professional distance, both of them trained up to maintain the polite fiction that nobody ever checked out anybody else in the shared showers or the locker room. But this was different. If it was just about Jamie swanning around their shared space naked, Roy would be fine. But it wasn’t about that. It was about Jamie–touchy, affectionate, clingy, sweet, pretty Jamie–sharing his bed and Roy was having enough trouble getting to sleep lately without Jamie actually lying next to him.

The third time The Thought crosses Roy’s mind, it doesn’t come as a sudden realisation like it had both times before. He doesn’t just happen to blink or some shit and get struck with the fucking epiphany that Jamie Tartt clearly, desperately needs a hug. It’s not a jolt to his system, not a surprise, not this huge blindsiding Thing that appears out of nowhere.
No, this iteration of The Thought creeps up like a bad cold: slowly, lazily to start, so that it doesn’t seem like such a big deal at first, but that’s how it fucking gets you, innit, because soon enough you’re knocked clear on your arse with the force of it.
And it’s fucking terrifying.

“You think so?” The words have scarcely left Jamie’s mouth before Roy’s eyes tear away from his chest, meeting Jamie’s. His breath catches in his throat at the intensity of the stare.
