Summary
Make the best of what you have, they said... But what I am supposed to do when the best I have are red-eyed freaks, a child who's supposed to be the jailor of the most dangerous being in the world, a snake bastard with serious boundary issues, and a whole world of super soldiers with licences to murder.
And you know the best part? None of them like me so much...
Oh shut it, old man! Take that Will of Fire and shove it up your—
Yeah, this second swing at life isn't panning out...

What to expect:
1) Gradual strength progression. Meaningful growth. The MC starts as avg guy, very weak, and has to work for everything.
2) "Slow" paced. The writing may feel slow, but I ensure the plot is always progressing.
3) Gritty fights scenes with focus on taijutsu—individual, team, and large-scale battle.
4) A unique take on the Naruto. A world full of super humans with license-to-kill—that along with the MC's struggles paint the world in a dark light.
5) Additions to the chakra system. I'm conservative when adapting power systems—and will retain original feel while highlighting the best parts.
6) This version uses the MANGA as the base—with additions from other sources.

Bookmarker's Notes
Fantastic.
I really enjoy this story. It’s fresh, and features an OC without clear discernible past life angst. The strength progression feels slow, but incredibly rewarding. Additionally, the world building and meandering plot points are incredibly unique.
The writing does have errors, but I don’t see that as a fault considering the pure quantity the author outputs. It’s obviously unrealistic to maintain quantity while assiduously proofreading
If I were to describe this story succinctly it would be with the word unique. This story contextualizes the Shinobi world in as logical a way as possible, considering the anachronisms of the world. There’s tremendous world building, a plethora of OCs, and a hugely expanded bureaucracy that makes sense.
I’d like to emphasize this story’s emphasis on what exactly defines a Jonin. More accurately, how the gaps in ranking is actually tremendously large. We got an inkling of this in early Naruto, but it fell to the wayside quickly because of the fact that they couldn’t have an idiotic, unskilled protagonist constantly beating high level Jonin + S-rank nin while simultaneously maintaining the sanctity and scarcity of the high ranks.
———-The sense of progression in this story is truly gratifying. Upon second read through, I’ve come to further appreciate the unique characters as well.
This story distinguishes itself by its unique take on the world, and its satisfying progression. It isn’t a story where the prose is uniquely excellent, nor one that has the more insane plot. But it’s fantastic in its own right.

Summary
NB: I have crossposted this story to Royalroad under the title System Override.
A forced experimental drug treatment at an early age has saddled David with an immense burden.
His mother’s insistence on his current lifepath as a corpo has done much the same.
David is a speeding ball of fire hurtling towards an unknown destination, and his mother’s death has left him adrift and unsure of his direction.
So he does what any teenager with no more fucks left to give does—he chips in some mil-spec chrome and looks for a quick way to earn edds, all the while learning to utilize the nanotechnology that had been forced on him as a child—finding out the immense potential within him as a result.
Corpo or Edgerunner? Why not both? And why not the best of both while we’re fucking at it?
Top of Arasaka Tower.

Bookmarker's Notes
Incredible story. S tier. By far the best I’ve read in the Cyberpunk universe, and it’s not particularly close.
This has been the most violently engrossing story I’ve read in a very long time. 2 back to back nights staying up until damn near 5 AM lol.
It’s incredible how the author manages to make the story filled with tension throughout, despite the ostensibly invincible like benefits David has. Story features some of the most creative and fun story arcs in this genre. The double agent aspect of the story is also incredible — so hard to do well, and requires a lot of world building chops. Pacing is another incredible positive.
Easily a 9+/10
I’m thinking a 9.2. Won’t go higher until a second re-read, and this is 100% worth one. Author is active, but not on this story. Would be a tragedy if abandoned.
I’m actually a bit upset that I read this story. It’s going to be really hard for any other Cyberpunk story to match up well. This one is just so far above and beyond everything else I’ve read.

Bookmarker's Notes
I bookmarked this in ancient times (2022) — I should probably go ahead and give this a re-review. I’ll probably end up removing the bookmark.
Note: it’s probably going to reflect poorly on my taste in 22.

Really good. Edit: sort of.
This story is genuinely so mindbogglingly confusing.
I’m coming to realize that there’s a very, VERY, slim population in the world that will ever really truly understand this story to the author’s extent lol.
I consider myself very well versed in ancient history. Less so on the ancient history of the near east. Decently well versed in WH fantasy, and similarly well versed in 40k.
Even still, I barely know what’s going on lol. Still enjoy it nonetheless.
Once upon a time I thought that it was a complete and total travesty that there was such a disconnect from the quality of this story and its popularity. Now, I’m recognizing that this story is perhaps one of the least digestible stories I’ve ever read.
I’m certainly in the extreme minority when it comes to even having the knowledge base to comprehend this story to an adequate yet minimal level. I’m basically certain that there’s not a single reader out there that actually fully understands what’s going on lol.
Story quality is very very high, but the readability is exceptionally low.
In many of the more confusing stories, things start to make sense as you read. There’s often an “a-ha” moment, where everything suddenly comes together. This never happens. It stays confusing with a plot that feels almost totally meandering.
I actually stopped reading the story like 2 chapters before it concluded, because I still felt like too much didn’t make sense.
I do not recommend this as a casual read.
I’ll still give this like a 8.8/10
More on ff.net, but the chapters are offset a few behind here.
Ch 19 here is 27 on ff.
