Summary
What is the meaning of being alive?
Is it the ability to breathe, bleed, to love and breed? Or is it a level of sentience, the ability to think and act, to feel and grieve? Anatomically, it would be described by the organs that keep the body alive, if the heart is beating, lungs contain and dispel air. Yet, if any doctor were to look at him now, he would fail to meet those requirements. Something has been taken from him, deep inside his soul. The intrinsic necessity of life.
He finds himself incredibly angry.

Summary
His feet pound against the ground with only one thought running through his mind, there is something behind him and it’s getting closer. Its voice is loud and enraged and it’s only getting nearer and nearer. He had thought he had above average speed for his demographic, yet he feels slow, he feels impossibly slow like his feet aren’t moving at all. No matter how much his feet move, there is only the same identical forest that he stands no chance of escaping.
And the creature knows it.
But if there is one thing Scott Goldsmith swears by.

“Evan?” The man asked hesitantly.
Evan only hummed in response, eyes glued to the forest. Not in fear but almost as an afterthought.
“How-“ Jammer tried to ask, before stopping himself, changing his approach. “What happened after I left?” He asked quietly, barely audible over the gushing rain.
He kept his head looking towards the forest, closing his eyes in thought. What didn’t happen? He could talk about his internship with Doctor boodle. Could reference his days as an apprentice, intern, explorer and odd job taker. Could talk about feeling the hit of magic disappearing when he was in the source of where all magic was. But he knew the man wasn’t asking about that. The unspoken question was ‘what happened to us?’ He could avoid the question, ignore it, fake a nap. But he needed to say it. Needed to speak what happened aloud. Was it closure, or a way to assure himself it wasn’t his fault?
“When you left things changed...” He whispered taking his eyes off the forest to stare at his feet.
He heard a shallow intake of breath from beside him. The man having feared his answer and the subsequent truth.

Summary
“My work is here.”
“Here?” Mitya’s head is pounding, so he’s not sure if he’s actually hearing him right. “You’re not-”
“The first tenet of my assignment,” Valeriy cuts in, “was your safety. We may have forgotten it over the course of these years, but escorting you back to work was always the secondary task.”
Mitya looks away. The snowstorm is still going.
Valeriy sets down the containers on his table, his motions slow and unpracticed. “If it is my role to protect you from your own mind,” he continues, quietly, “then understand that I will be there.”
“You’re taking on an… impossible task, Sarge.” Mitya’s scarf wraps around himself a little more tightly, as if trying to reassure him. He’s not sure that it’s succeeding. “You shouldn’t. I’ve always been crazy. They knew that too. It’s a small price to pay, to see our world freed from these curses.”
Valeriy does not say anything, but Mitya knows he disagrees.

Summary
Caelus grabbed Sampo’s wrist.
“Could you go in first?” he asked. “Just that… it’s a rule for these things. Tallest goes in first. To prevent… blockages… in the dream flow thing.”
Sampo’s eyebrows pinched. It was clear he didn’t really believe Caelus, but there was a glint in his eyes that was more nervous than angry.
“Uh. Sure thing, pal.”
Alright. This was it. There was no saying what the dreamscape within a dreamscape would have in store for them, and it was unknown if they’d be able to rest once they stepped through. Caelus’s grip tightened on Sampo’s wrist as the man stepped forward to the Artwork.
“I’m not going anywhere,” Sampo said with his stupid smile.
Then, he pulled the both of them into the Artwork.
Or
Caelus and Sampo get trapped in an Arcane Artwork by some very angry Pepeshi. It turns out that the dreamscape (and by extension, whatever is happening with and between Caelus and Sampo) needs a little digging to get through.
