Harry's eyes were wet now.
Salazar.
Potter was crying.
The world truly had lost all sense.
"What if we don't find her?" Harry whispered. "What if she keeps going and nobody stops her?"
His voice grew quieter still.
"What if I lose her, like I lost Ron?"
The question seemed to echo through the room.
Draco felt a lump form in his throat.
Harry looked suddenly very young, tired, and frightened. And Draco discovered that seeing Harry Potter frightened was somehow worse than seeing him angry.
Without thinking, Draco awkwardly patted Harry’s shoulder.
“There, there,” he said.
They sat in silence. Harry sniffed. Draco drank. Then Draco made the catastrophic mistake of continuing to think about Hermione.
Before his brain could intervene, the words fell out.
“I care about her, too.”
Harry blinked. “What?”
Draco frowned. Why had he said that? That seemed private. And yet somehow his mouth, apparently having staged a coup, continued.
“I care about Granger.”
