If you want to cry while reading Sonic trying his best to trust Tom and Maddie, this is the fic for you my dudes.
Trust is an extremely hard thing to earn, especially when you have been beaten and tortured for 2 years, so much so even the tiniest of loud sound scare you. This fic handles what it actually takes to make someone trust you, and what you gain by being patient. Like, very, VERY patient.
10/10 read honestly

Summary
An alert flashes in the corner of Metal's vision: liquid is seeping into the seams between his metal plating.
He studies Sonic in thermal vision again, then flips over to his normal camera. Looks at where Sonic is sitting atop him. Zooms in.
...Oh. Not a fever, then—at least, not a normal one.
Sonic grinds himself downwards, smearing a mess of slick over Metal's thigh. "You know—" He laughs, the sound more than a little hysterical. "I was on my way to Tails so he could find an antidote, but—"
Belatedly, Metal's instincts kick back in. He bucks upwards, trying to get Sonic off him—but all it gets him is a moan and Sonic grinding down against him once more.
Sonic huffs and leans forward so they're eye to eye. "Since you're so fucking happy to get physical," he says, "I guess I'll just take care of this the old fashioned way."

Talkative Sonic with childhood trauma X Mentally Constipated Shadow with daddy issues. Need I say more?
I do need to say more. One of the most well thought out bodyguard-idol fics I've ever read, with the most tear jerking writing I've ever had the fortune of reading. You could go from giggling and kicking your feet, to screaming "what the fuck shadow" in the matter of minutes. That's how good this fic is. My original description was a gross oversimplification, when this fic is beyond that. Such an amazing fic, I'm so so glad to have read this while it's ongoing

Summary
Sonic struggles to grapple through taking care of Tails and the recent trauma of ending things with his ex, Jet. Just when he thought he'd be alone forever, a black and red hedgehog sweeps him off his feet and makes sure he knows he's loved.
But Jet's not gone. His possessiveness causes Sonic's paranoia to worsen, resulting in his own mental torture. Everyone thinks he's okay, but he's not.
Not like Sonic would ever admit to it. He's fine.
He has to be.

Summary
It's Sonic's birthday, a time of uncertainty for Tails. There are so many factors to consider, so many things that have to be left unsaid. Tails has a plan to add a bit of extra brightness to Sonic's day but he has to be super careful; one little slip might ruin everything. He has to avoid that at all costs. Sonic deserves the world but Tails can't give that to him.
So maybe this would have to do.
