Summary
The silence of my apartment was what threw me off first.
Usually, the old groan of the pipes whistling and the clinkering of my neighbor’s pots would be playing but no, I couldn’t hear anything. At first, I thought I had gone deaf, or this was the universe’s way of giving me a gift.
That’s when I saw it. A patch of blood on my kitchen floor, around the size of a 20-cent coin. I immediately dragged my hands across my face, checking if I was bleeding anywhere. I rubbed my hands furiously against my cheeks, lips, forehead, and chin. But no sign of blood was found. I checked my nose, just in case my nose was bleeding. But – like before- there was no sign of blood. I looked up at the ceiling, searching for any stains that may have dripped down. But yet again there was none.
I stood over it, my cup of coffee tinkering in my hand. I felt a cold shiver run down my spine.
