Why did Mithrun decide to stay in Melini after the events of canon?

After the Falin feast, the Canaries prepare to return to the Northern Central Continent. Before they do, Mithrun finds a mysterious artifact that interferes with and warps his teleportation magic. Instead of teleporting through space, he ends up teleporting to random points in time in his past and future with no knowledge of how to control it. He's given glimpses of the life he builds in Melini with Kabru years from now, and he's sent back to pivotal moments in his past that could rewrite the course of his life if he chooses to interfere. Once he gains the knowledge of what his future holds, will that change what he chooses to do in the present?

    “How are you feeling?”

Mithrun sighed and looked away. “It didn’t work. Normally, the symptoms should’ve been subdued for a couple hours at least, but…”

“But it doesn’t work in the presence of a fated mate, does it?”

His shoulders hunched, and his hand came up to grip his upper arm on the other side, as if he were bracing himself for something. “No.”

Kabru saves Mithrun from hypothermia after he gets lost in a dangerous blizzard, and they take refuge in a small hut outside the capital to ride out the storm. Sharing body heat is the best way to rewarm a frozen elf, but the close contact triggers an unexpected heat in Mithrun and reveals the designation Kabru kept hidden his entire adult life. When Kabru learns that suppressants can fail in the presence of a fated mate, he realizes that helping his friend through his heat could complicate things between them in ways he’s not yet ready for.

"Turns out he’s the chosen hero of the legends," Daruk said with a cough.

Revali sputtered into a stunned silence.

“Bullshit, that’s impossible!” His feathers rustled as he balked. “He was sent by the demon king!”

“We know that, but— he has the mark of the goddess on his hand,” Urbosa snapped. “The rest of us saw it. If you don’t believe it, you can see for yourself.”

The Rito didn’t even deign to give the unconscious swordsman a glance.

“Hero or not, we’re not letting him off the hook just like that,” Revali’s voice climbed an octave. “He’s too dangerous— we saw what he’s capable of. We have to kill him while he’s still weakened!”

“We aren’t killing him,” Zelda asserted again. This time, she lifted her eyes. Her voice held a note of cautiousness, but it was still unshakeable.

“If we’re to even hope to defeat the demon king, we need the hero on our side. We have to take him with us.”

In which Link was raised as Ganon’s right hand man, but Zelda and the Champions snatch him away.

    Summary

"Qifrey," he murmured, his voice barely more than a whisper. Qifrey's restraint was wearing thin. With every second spent in this cramped room, with every minute he spent avoiding his hunger, with every day he'd fought to keep his eyes, hands, and feelings to himself. He looked up and met the fire in Olruggio's gaze. "Tell me if I'm misunderstanding."

    Or,
Qifrey is a vampire and Olruggio offers him blood.
