Summary
Lady Syrathene is a disgraced former corsair captain turned slave trader in Karond Kar. She owes a lot of money to her patron, Dreadlord Kharzeth. Her house has withdrawn from her and waits for her to fall. Despite everything, she tries to persevere as she navigates the treacherous landscape that is Druchii politics and her own impulses that threaten to hurt both herself and those around her.
One day she buys a Norscan slave she only thought would be more meat for the arena. Yet he proves to be worth much more than she paid when he saves her life from a Khainite Assassin and in doing so reveals she is harboring a Chaos Sorcerer. Seeing an opportunity, she promotes him to be her new bodyguard.
