    Summary

Leon sat up in bed, his chest heaving, lungs straining for air as if he were still underwater. His heart hammered violently against his ribs, every sense on high alert, muscle memory kicking in before his vision even cleared from the nightmare.

In the dream, the breach had happened again—heavy boots on the floorboards, cold hands tearing the swaddle away, the cold metallic stamp of a state-custody order claiming their son as restricted genetic property.

Before his feet could hit the hardwood, a broad, warm palm rested firmly against the center of his chest, anchoring him to the mattress.

"I’ve got you," Chris's voice was low, gravelly with sleep, but steady as stone. "Look at me, we're safe…

    Summary

Leon gasped, the sudden impact causing an involuntary, desperate whimper to slip past his lips—a sound that could easily give away his biological status.

“Look, this is a peak performance for me right now,” Leon growled out, his voice catching in his throat as he continued to keep Chris covered. “I'm working with questionable optimism. Save the critiques, keep your head high, and shoot!”

Chris remained focused on the target, unaware of the internal battle Leon was fighting. With the weapon leveled and firing, Chris's firm grip stayed clamped on Leon's shoulder, keeping him anchored safely underneath him.

A confusing, aggressive heat started pooling in Chris's veins—his own alpha blood demanding he secure and comfort his teammate. Unaware that his teammate was an omega, the suppressants had worn off and their heat had begun, Chris tightened his grip on his rifle and Leon's shoulder, his knuckles turning white.

    Summary

“I knew I'd find you around here.”

Leon jolts awake, and for a second, he’s only aware of the pink, flickering neon over the counter and the clock ticking right above it. He doesn’t reach for his holster—he knows that voice all too well. He glances up, blinking slowly, to meet Chris’s gaze.

“Your stealth’s gotten better.” Leon gestures at the mug growing cold on the table in front of him. “Before you say anything unpleasant—that’s coffee.”

    Chris scoffs, then smiles.

“I wouldn't blame you for indulging in a drink after the night you just had.”

“Really?” Leon inhales deeply, holding back a coughing fit that he chalks up to an entire building collapsing on him, just a couple of hours ago. “Aging is making you soft, Captain Redfield.”

There’s a mineral aftertaste at the back of Leon’s throat, and there was a time when he would have considered watering it down with a drink, falling into his glass until morning only to forget the sound of his own name. But the man he is today can only wonder if it will eventually wash off, or if Raccoon City’s crumbling foundations will somehow always stick with him.

Chris finds Leon just a few hours after Requiem's events.

    Summary

Leon has become a master of the slow fade, a ghost haunting his own life until there’s nothing left but the sharp scent of whiskey and the hollow echoes of a man who stopped caring months ago. He exists in the spaces between memories he'd rather forget, pulling the shadows around him like a second skin.

Chris is the only one who refuses to let him vanish. Armed with a stubborn, quiet persistence and a refusal to look away, he remains the sole anchor in Leon’s drifting world. In the suffocating stillness of what remains, they are forced to navigate the blurred lines of a bond that is as much a lifeline as it is a burden.

A study of the fine line between saving a man and breaking him further, navigating an intimacy neither was ever trained to handle.
