Magical girl collectives known as Offices vie for territory across space under the guidance of Warmasters. Newbies claimed as property by veterans are expected to repay them however is seen fit. There is pain, exploitation, and girls all across the solar system trying their best to live just one more day.
The Goddess cannot watch over them. The Goddess has been dead for a long, long time.

The Simurgh’s precognition was matched only by the Thinker entity, but she still needed to spend a small but notable fraction of her not-quite-infinite power to forecast the human race. She could pick apart humans neuron by neuron, but a holistic view of their emergent functions--especially when influenced by Shards--escaped her. Refining her knowledge thereof would allow more elegant forms of prediction than the brute force approach upon which she currently relied.
So, she reached out, as she did every night, to the isolated fragment of herself that she had cast into the world she shared with the Warrior’s avatar.
