Summary
Viktor is a merman from the deep sea, and finds what he calls a "fallen star." He travels to the surface to learn more about what it is, where it came him, what its purpose is. Posing as a human, Viktor finds the surface to be different - its brightness, the sting of legs on land used to water and not gravity. But sitting at night with the first human he met, the quiet of the night is calm, is right.
Jayce had been trying to unlock the secrets of that same star for years, having lost it during a trip that was supposed to be celebrating the years of fruition in research and work. He had been on the precipice of something great until… He lost the very center of his thesis. A thesis that each missing piece finds its way from the deep, as human and merman blend sky, land, and sea.

Summary
Dying, trapped in a crack in the world, Jayce has lost almost everything- save the memories. And in the darkness those come out in terrible, technicolor clarity. Every victory, every failure, how it all began- and how it ended. Every single time he stepped over the edge. Every time he fell.
(Jayce hadn't thought anything of him at first- easy to overlook an unwanted bureaucrat- easier still, to overlook a cripple.)
(Something sly about it, the cast of that pale face. Just how bright those golden eyes were, in the black. They seemed to catch the light, reflecting it back, like those of a young fox.)
Of course, falling didn't always hurt. Once, he had fallen in love.
