“I think... I don’t know — I think Eddie might have... kissed me.” Buck scrutinizes Maddie’s face for her reaction, but her expression remains annoyingly neutral.
“Okay.”
“Okay?”
“Well. Did he? How can you not know?”
“It was all happening so fast. One second I thought he was dead, then he was right in front of me, and then he collapsed. I just — I think he did but then he passed out so even if he did, did he mean to? He was barely conscious.” He babbles.
“Buck.” Maddie says calmly. “Take a breath.”
“Okay.” Buck rubs a hand across his face. “Okay.”
“Let’s take a step back. Why do you think he kissed you?”
“Because I think he put his lips on mine.”
“Sounds like kissing.” Maddie says, with only the slightest air of patronization.

Summary
"You think you’re dreaming.”
Eddie hesitates, sitting back down slowly. “I am dreaming.”
“Ah!” Buck says, blue eyes wide. “Or— or maybe you’re not. Maybe this is just a-a different life.”
“A different life?” Eddie frowns. “What?”
“You know,” Buck insists, “like, you went to sleep and you woke up somewhere else, in a different version of your life. And— and to get back, you probably have to do something.”
“Like a— a parallel universe?”
in which Eddie goes to sleep and wakes up somewhere else, Buck helps him get back home, and along the way Eddie learns what it means to choose juice.

Summary
“This is the most thought that anyone, of all time, ever, has put into adjusting a driver’s seat, Eddie.”
“Buck—”
“I’m serious. That rearview mirror has lived through so many angles and lives in the past six minutes that it’s about to start recounting its first-hand experience on the Titanic.”
Just for that, Eddie reaches up between them and tweaks the mirror again. A ray of sunlight hits it and bounces across Buck’s eyeline. Buck’s face scrunches up as he rushes to shield his forehead with one hand. It does not remind Eddie whatsoever of a small, bashful dog hiding behind its soft paw, because that would be deranged. He twists the mirror back into position.
“The Titanic probably would have gotten us to Nashville better than this truck.”
Buck’s indignant squawk rings out in time with the turnover of the engine as Eddie hits the ignition.

Summary
“Can I-and I apologize if this is overstepping, in any way,” Alex continues, her voice mercifully dissolving the mental image Eddie had cursed himself with.
“But, since we’re here, I just wanted to offer."
She digs around in her purse for a moment, and Eddie looks at Buck. He raises his eyebrows in a question, and Buck shrugs.
Sure. Now he knows what Eddie is thinking.
Alex discards her purse and looks up at Buck and Eddie.
“Well, I can’t find my cards, but I’d be happy to give you guys my information.”
Eddie narrows his eyes in genuine uncertainty.
Buck leans forward, elbows on his knees, and asks the question they’re both thinking.
“Information for what, exactly?”
“Right, sorry, I wasn’t super clear,” Alex says with a shake of her head. She smiles brightly. “I do couples counseling, too. First session is on me, if you guys are interested. I have plenty of experience with long-term partners. LGBT included, so you’d feel right at home!”
Eddie leans forward now, mouth open in shock.
“How–”
Eddie doesn’t finish the thought, because Buck is choking. Of course.
