“Yeah, I’m fine,” Vegas says, but then his smile turns wicked, a hand coming up to catch Pete’s wrist, pressing a quick kiss to his palm. “Unless of course you’re just looking for an excuse to play nurse…?”
Pete raises an eyebrow, a corner of his mouth ticking up.
“Want me to tuck you into bed? Maybe wipe your fevered brow?” Pete leans in close. “I can think of a few interesting places to stick a thermometer…”
Vegas reaches over without looking and closes his laptop before standing, still holding Pete’s wrist. His grin widens.
“Come on, you don’t need a thermometer to know I’m hot-”
Pete rolls his eyes, and things quickly devolve from there; Vegas can’t be feeling too badly all things considered.

Fortunately, Pete is capable of having sex with his boss without feelings of any kind. And to Vegas, Pete is just another lover, of course. It’s not like his easy smiles, his incessant chatter and the way even his brother likes him is turning his whole routine and life upside down or anything.

Pete loves Vegas, of course, loves him more than anything in the whole wide world, and nothing can change that. And he knows that Vegas loves him at least as much, probably more, but neither of those facts seems to be making the relationship any easier to navigate.
No, Pete never really expected his life with Vegas to be easy, but he sure as hell didn’t expect it to be so hard, either. He thought they would simply click, like they clicked during their safe house days. He thought there would be problems, yes, but he expected they would be able to solve those, to talk about them, because that’s what adults do, right?
Turns out (shockingly), that neither of them really knows how to communicate – in fact, their attempts to do so only tend to make matters much worse.
It’s not Vegas’ fault, obviously, that the slightest bit of what he perceives as criticism completely extinguishes the light in his eyes and makes him withdraw, just as it’s not Pete’s fault that the moment he sees it happen, he takes back anything he said that made Vegas so sad.

As if this black material was separating them from the rest of the world. Behind that black veil, they could be themselves. Vegas and Pete, two lovers who have (very) much (everything) in common.
Behind the veil, Vegas could caress Pete's body and Pete gave himself completely to him. Only this black silk made sure the world didn't hear their moans, sighs and softly whispered words.

“Happier without you?” asked Vegas.
“Yes,” said Pete bitterly.
Vegas was hurt. Pete's words cut deeper than any blade could, sinking into his heart over and over. Pete thought he would be happier without him?! Again, Vegas knew that Pete didn't really mean it. Pete was spiralling. Vegas knew how to bring Pete back, and Pete knew how to save Vegas from himself.
The two of them needed each other and right now, Pete was completely-
And it was all Vegas' fault.
(In order to bring Korn down, Vegas starts working with Porsche and Kinn again. But by doing that Vegas pushes the person he loves the most away. And Vegas learns that there's more important things out there than getting revenge...)
