Oona blinks in surprise. “What? She’s fine. I’m here with you right now.”
“Are you?” Ramona has no idea what she’s playing at but the bewildered expression on Oona’s face only seems to egg her on. “I mean you barely said two words to me tonight until now.”
“Ramona I…” Oona starts to defend herself before Ramona watches the realization slowly settle across her face. And then her mouth curves upward. “Oh.” She says it softly.

Author Edit: First draft originally published Aug 10 but have since added 2000+ words as of Sept 16, changed the dock scene completely, made it spicy, and fleshed out the narrative a bit more! Despite her better judgment, Oona can see the tension in Ramona's shoulders, the way it constricts her movements in that stupid fucking jacket. "That's fucking great. Real classy of you. I got to witness you fuck your way through practically all of Ontario but the second I get a girlfriend, you can't handle it."
Oona hums. "Slut-shaming me now? Nice one, 'Mona. New York has changed you." The nickname is not part of the plan. It slips out of Oona's mouth and it hangs in the air between the two of them; Ramona's eyes widen at its familiarity.
